School Resource Officers

Officers work in conjunction with school officials to provide a law enforcement presence within the school system. The officers attempt to create a positive relationship with the students, by not only being active in the schools, (i.e. attending school functions, sporting events, dances) but also have an open door policy allowing students to interact with them. The officers also work with the school principals in matters of discipline and any criminal nature.

School Safety Patrol

School safety patrol is composed of volunteer boys and girls from upper elementary grades. Students are positioned on street corners at or around the crossing zones of each school to protect fellow students from the hazards of crossing streets and roads on their way to and from school.

A teacher from each respective school usually serves as patrol supervisor and the Alamogordo Police Department provides training to each safety patroller and assists the teacher coordinators in implementing the program.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is one of the most effective and least costly ways to prevent crime and reduce fear. Neighborhood Watch fights the isolation that crime both creates and feeds upon. It forges bonds among area residents, helps reduce burglaries and robberies, and improves relations between police and the communities they serve.
