Juvenile Traffic Court
Juvenile Traffic Arraignments
Juvenile traffic arraignments are held Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. That is the only day of the week that the Municipal Court handles juvenile matters. Please come 10 minutes early and sign in at the Clerk’s window.
If you are a juvenile with a traffic violation, you will either:
- Attend Teen Court
- See the Judge to enter a plea
Teen court is a program that offers first time offenders the opportunity to have their citation dismissed upon successful completion of teen court. A no contest or guilty plea must be entered in order to participate in teen court.
Availability & Sentencing
Teen Court is available on two Monday’s of every month. By signing a No Contest or Guilty Plea, you will agree to attend the next available date. A Teen Court panel of your trained peers will determine sentencing. Sentencing options may include one or all of the following:
- Community Service
- Driving School
- Jury Duties (Teen Court)
- Know The Law (State Police)
- Or any others approved by the Municipal Court Judge
If Teen Court is not completed successfully, you will be referred back to the Municipal Court to face additional Contempt Charges for Failure to Comply with Teen Court and your citation will remain on your record.
Teen Court Penalties
Penalties in Municipal Court can include any of the above, as well as a fine of up to $500 and the citation will remain on your record. If you feel you are Not Guilty of the violation and wish to have a Trial, please remain in the courtroom to see the judge for a Trial Date.
If you are not asked to participate in Teen Court, this means that you have had a traffic violation in the past. Teen Court is only for first time offenders. If this is not the juvenile’s first appearance in the Municipal Court, he/she will be asked to enter the court room for arraignment.
During the arraignment, the juvenile will be able to plea guilty, no contest, or not guilty. If a not guilty plea is given, a trial date will be set and a notice of trial will be issued. If a guilty or no contest plea is given, the juvenile will be sentenced at that time. After sentencing the juvenile will be asked to report to the clerk’s window for further paperwork.
